Ela Jaen is a senior here at BDCHS who has been recognized for a very big accomplishment. She is one of the two students chosen to have their Hispanic Heritage Art pieces included in the textbook, Teaching Social Studies in Language Immersion Contexts: Pedagogy and Methods for Integrating Content and Target Language Acquisition. Ela’s artwork can be found in the chapter called, "Latinx Heritages, Cultures, and Language through Contemporary Art Integration. "The title of Ela’s piece is “Folklorico Dancers.” She explains more in her artist statement:
“Folklórico is a Mexican dance style whose roots can be traced back to indigenous ceremonial and social dances. Many cultures have made a mark on the style with time, including Spain during the colonial period as well as Germany, France, Africa, and Asia after Mexico's independence. Each state has a unique dance that represents them, from a local animal to a historic event.”
Congratulations to Ela on her beautiful artwork and great achievement!
