Last Wednesday, BDCHS’ senior class was invited to attend the HORUS Scholars Scholarship & Career Expo at the TPEPINS Hospitality Centre. The expo featured over 30 tables, featuring both in-state and out-of-state colleges, universities, and ROTC programs. Many students remarked about being introduced to colleges they hadn’t known about prior to the event, and all students were given take-home materials from the experience. While students surveyed the tables and engaged with admissions counselors, participants were invited to share their scholarship awards with event organizers who celebrated on stage. Students from all schools clapped to congratulate their fellow scholarship honorees.
Over 11 million dollars was given away at the event, with BDCHS earning over 1.4 million dollars in offers. Within that amount, over half of the Brooks DeBartolo attendees walked away with tens of thousands of dollars toward specific colleges. Senior Class Co-Adviser and PCSD Instructor Mrs. Spivey called it a valuable, well-organized experience, with quality attendance by both colleges and attendees. She would like to encourage more students to participate in opportunities like this in the future.
