During spring break, eight Brooks DeBartolo students traveled to Washington D.C. and participated in the Students Building Healthy Communities program sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida in cooperation with the Close-Up Foundation. While in the nation’s capital, the BDCHS students visited many of the premier sites including the new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Supreme Court, Vietnam Memorial, Capitol Hill, Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian Museum of American History. When the students were not gallivanting around Washington, they were hard at work developing a community action project to be implemented in the Tampa Bay area. The students had to complete 15 hours of community service in order to be eligible for the all expense paid trip. The students who were selected for the trip were: Julia Delgado, Jenna Hart, Nandi Johnson, Tyler Pierre, Yazmyn Presley, Idrissa Presley-Peterson, Daniel Rosa, and Kevin Spring.
